SORSOGON - "The Land of Kasanggayahan"
Kasanggayahan (kah-sang-ga-ya-han) is a Bikol dialect means "When the fields are green and the grains are golden; when the machines works well and all business prosper; when the birds in the sky chirp freely and men on earth are peacefully happy; in Bikol, it is KASANGGAYAHAN, meaning a life of prosperity."
Sorsogon is located at the southern tip of Luzon Island,Philippines. The Province is the gateway to the south of the Philippines (the Visayas and Mindanao) via to the Town of Matnog where the Ferry Terminal is found.
Sorsogon is composed of 14 Municipalities or Town and 1 City, they are: Pilar, Donsol, Castilla, Gubat, Prieto Diaz, Barcelona, Bulusan, Irosin, Bulan, Matnog, Sta. Magdalena, Magallanes, Juban, Casiguran and Sorsogon City. Sorsogon City is the result of the merging of two Municipalities, the Sorsogon and Bacon.
Nature has showered the Province with unexplored and pristine Tourist attractions, boost by Mountain Lake cradled below Mount Bulusan (Bulusan Volcano), rising at 2000 feet above sea level.
Awed by the wild vegetation around it, the succulent environment of the forest and the idylic mixture of the wildlife's enchanting aura, foreign tourist have campared it with the cool and enthralling country of Switzerland, naming it as the "Switzerland of the Orient".
Sorsogon is blessed with rich reserved of aquatic resources. It is the major supplier of fish food all over the mainland. The world's largest fish, the whale shark (scientific name is Richodon Typus) locally known as "Butanding" shelters near the shore of the town of Donsol.
HOW TO GET TO SORSOGON
By Land
Sorsogon is accessible from Manila through the south road buses. Air condition coaches plying the Manila to Sorsogon are available in the City of Manila.
By Sea
Sorsogon is also accessible via the Manila-Cebu-Masbate-Pilar/Bulan route. Luxury ships from Manila can take you an cruise from Manila to the Port of Cebu. And from Masbate, a motorized boat can take you on another three-hour ride to the rustic town of Pilar and Bulan in Sorsogon.
By Air
This southernmost Province of Luzon is accessible by plane through the Legazpi City (Albay) Airport. From here you can take a cab and go direct to Sorsogon City. On the City proper, "tricycle" are the available transportation to roam you around the City. If you are going to one of the 14 Municipalities, passenger jeepneys are the most accessible means of transportation.
